It’s not where you came from that counts

This quote from Ella Fitzgerald reminds us that you cannot judge someone by where they come from but only by what they become.

Ella Jane Fitzgerald was an American jazz singer, sometimes referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz, and Lady Ella. She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing, timing, intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. She was raised in Yonkers in a poor Italian neighbourhood of New York State, so she epitomises the rise from from nothing to worldwide reknown. She applied herself in her education and took every opportunity presented other to shine.

“It isn’t where you came from; it’s where you’re going that counts.”
